Congregation
approves Phase One proposals
On Sunday afternoon,
July 27, the congregation approved the recommendations of
the Church Council to proceed with Phase One of our 2020
Vision. The first stage will include modifications of
the sanctuary ("Sanctuary Enhancement") as well
as providing $40,000 to Selian Hospital in Tanzania for
the construction of a recovery house for children. (The
latter represents 25% of the mission component of Phase
One.)
The recommendations
which were approved were presented as three resolutions:
- RESOLVED: That this
congregation, approve the Sanctuary Enhancement Proposal,
as presented by the Sanctuary Enhancement Team and as
designed by John Miller.
- RESOLVED: That this
congregation, authorize the Church Council to disburse
funds from the Capital Campaign to complete the Sanctuary
Enhancement as approved, and to provide $40,000 to Selian
Lutheran Hospital in Arusha, Tanzania to construct a recovery
facility for children at the hospital. Following the funding
of these two components, the remaining Capital Campaign
components of Debt Reduction, Mission, and Endowment Fund
will be funded, as funding becomes available, in the proportions
agreed upon at the September 30, 2007 Congregational Meeting.
- RESOLVED:
That this congregation authorize the Church Council to
enter into a short-term bridge loan, if needed, to complete
the Sanctuary Enhancement and to provide funding for the
Selian Lutheran Hospital Mission component, for an amount
not to exceed $450,000 for duration not to exceed twelve
months. All principal and interest payments on such a
loan would be paid from Capital Campaign funds.
