Hebrews 12:1&2a

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles .And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

When SIP first came into effect and we had to switch our lives completely online, I believe most of us thought this would be a “sprint”. This would be a difficult time but we would “run hard” for a short season and we could get back to normal, i.e, worshiping in person, celebrations, Disneyland etc.  Most of us thought by summer we would “have our lives back”.

Unfortunately, church, this season is looking like a “cross country long distance run” instead of a short sprint. When you are running cross country you often cannot see the finish line from the starting line. It is only after you run through curves, hills and valleys that the finish line starts to appear.

So my question is  are we running this race well? Are our eyes fixed on Jesus, or on our circumstances?

Here are some questions to examine ourselves:

  • Are we spending more time on social media posts on the pandemic then we spend on reading the Word?
  • Is your current schedule all about you (how many Netflix shows have you binged watched) or have you spent anytime encouraging other believers?
  • How’s your prayer life?
  • Have you created space for Worship services?
  • Will you come out of this spiritually stronger or spiritually empty?

Lord, we confess that at times we are weary in this circumstance we are battling. Please forgive us for taking our eyes off of you and keeping them on the difficulties we are facing. Holy Spirit, convict us in the areas we need convicting. Give us the strength to run this race well. In the Powerful Name of Jesus, Amen.
