November 18

This Thanksgiving will look new and different this year. In the midst of the ongoing pandemic, this season has been and will continue to be very challenging for us all.

One of my favorite verses in the past few years is 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Growing up in Madagascar, where my parents were missionaries was wonderful, but our family was seldomly gathered together for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was often spent at our boarding school with teachers and house parents making it special for all of us who missed our parents very much. I am grateful for the ways we were cared for by so many who became our extended family.

In 2016, I had a quadruple bypass, but it did not deter me from joining Jim, later that year, on the amazing journey “In the Footsteps of Paul.” My recovery was challenging in new ways, but I chose a new theme for my daily life: “living in gratitude.” God’s words in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 have focused my heart and my mind on this theme from the Apostle Paul.

With an ongoing pandemic and constant change, it seems this year has been uniquely difficult. it is so easy to feel sad and discouraged, but we are called to be thankful in all circumstances. We can choose new ways to share our legacy stories of faith and to be thankful for how God has sustained us in these circumstances. We belong to Christ Jesus and this is His will for us.

Jim and I are very thankful for God’s provision and for you, our St. Timothy’s family! We long to get to know you. We love you and pray God’s blessings of joy and peace as you celebrate His love and grace during these days of Thanksgiving.
