“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:17‬ NIV
One of my favorite zoom calls each week is the Wednesday cornerstone call with the junior high kids. Even in this difficult season, these kids bring such joy to each zoom box. When the call initiates, Anna-Marie is welcoming as the kids join the call, even more so if somebody we haven’t seen in a week or two appears- just like that one lost sheep, She likes to say “hey what is this my birthday -hello Meena!” It goes without saying that these calls push zoom features to their limit. Bazaar, fun, virtual backgrounds, silly names and general antics can be found in each box. The games at the end are truly a blast. Ask anyone about Marley hosting Mafia. Such fun!!
We pray and check in asking each kid to share a good & bummer from their week. They often can’t think of a bummer, even during these days. We then spend time in God’s word with a prepared lesson and as you can probably guess…out of the mouths of babes, some keen insights are shared from those with “childlike faith.” Hmm was it Black Friday when Jesus was crucified? Well yeah but it was good too, right?
The Kingdom of Heaven is compared to little children at several places in the New Testament: From Luke
“But Jesus called the children to him and said,’Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'”
Luke‬ ‭18:16 NIV
Oh that we “grown ups” can still approach our Lord with a childlike faith, in awe and wonder. Maybe it’s just easier to remember how much bigger God is than us?
Lord help us remember our childlike faith, a simpler trust in you. Thank you even for seasons of challenge that are much bigger than us, remind us these events are not bigger than you, and continue to draw us closer to you. Amen.
