Matthew 7: 24 and 25
“Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Jesus is our rock. Everything he did, everything he said, everything he was, came from God. He is the gift that God has given us, the very best gift we will ever receive. When we stand with him, when we make him our focus and foundation, we are solid- nothing can blow us over or beat us down. Our foundation, when it is built with him, is good. It is solid.

There are many challenges in life, especially now when the world seems so chaotic, scary, and out of control. There is much unrest, much uneasiness and anxiety. During these turbulent times we need our Lord now more than ever. And he is always here. He is always with us. We may not be happy with the things that are happening to us and around us, and while we don’t understand why they are happening, having solid faith in Him, we are promised a life with him. A wonderful life, better than what any of us deserve. We will be with him one day, only by the grace of God.

So when I hear the hymn, “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand” I remember the verses in Matthew and thank the Lord for his gracefulness.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being our rock- not an unstable pile of rocks that shifts  every time you take a step, but a solid rock that we can stand on and depend on. Give us the courage to lean on you, and to trust you, even when we don’t fully understand the “Why” of the things going on around us. We thank you with our whole heart, and with every ounce of our being, for you and your promise of everlasting life with you. Amen
